WD External HardDrive not Reading

I Have a new WD external Hard drive, when it is plugged in, My computer is not recognizing it. It worked once and I was able to transfer one file.
Any solutions?

Partition and format the drive.

If your external HD is new with WD, you should also have free tech. support for the first 30 days.  Look at your warranty for their phone # and give them a call.
