Flash Player Not Necessary on Windows 8? (RESOLVED)
« on: August 04, 2014, 11:13:30 PM »
Yesterday I was doing some maintenance on my sister's computer, which has Windows 8.  In looking with Revo Uninstaller at all the stuff that was installed, I happened to notice that there was no Flash Player installed ... neither (IE) nor (Non-IE).

So the question is:  Does Windows 8 not need any Flash Player at all installed?

In my using of the computer, not once did I notice any image or video not displaying and I was never informed that to be able to view so & so I needed to install Flash Player.

Does Windows 8 have something else that does the job of Flash Player?

Oh okay.  Good to know.  Cuz yesterday I contemplated installing it.  ;D  But, ultimately I thought, "Nah, I'd better not.  Who knows what might happen if I do and I wasn't supposed to."

Thanks, Essexboy!

If it is working, don't try to break it  ;)

Hi Chim, if you look in the control panel you'll see Flash Player is listed there, easiest seen when control panel view is set to large icons instead of category.

Ahh okay.  I didn't get around to checking around in the Control Panel.
It's that I so despise how things are situated in Windows 8 that I try to roam around as little as possible in my isolated, periodic chances that I get access to my sister's Windows 8 computer.

Back when that was just their computer room, I used to be able to go over there much earlier and have time to roam around, experiment and learn, etc.  But, now it's not just the computer room, but rather also my sister's brother-in-law's room.  So now I have to wait until 2:00PM on Sundays after he's awake.  ;D Then as quickly as possible, I run scans of Norton, SAS, MBAM and AdwCleaner, CCleaner, Glary Utilities and JetClean to make sure the computer is SAFE to plug in my Flash Drive.  Cuz more often than not, it's NOT safe.  The previous Sunday it was an absolute slow-functioning MESS.  Once I perform a full SAFE-afying of the computer, I don't have too much time to download the Apps updates that I need.

Anyway, thanks for the info, Craig.

Might suggest a free imaging back up program to shorten your fixes time and stay so you can use your time for other things when you visit:  http://kb.macrium.com/KnowledgebaseArticle50185.aspx

See screen capture of above link for actual free software below:

You will need to copy/paste all newer files created after the last full image backup to a second internal drive or USB drive of some sort before you restore a known clean image, tho.  Then you can update definitions, programs, etc., after restoring system.

Image restoration should take only 15 minutes or so with a standard HDD, much less than that with a SSD drive.

Windows 11 Pro 23H2
Avast Premier Security version 24.8.6127 (build 24.8.9372.868)

Win8 like win7 already has built in Imaging software that works very well, I make an image every week and before trialling new software and it's never failed me :)

OK, but do you trust?  I use third-party software specifically because of known glitches in Windows backup software in the past.

Why would I not trust it ??? if I didn't I wouldn't have a windows system ;) It's always worked faultlessly for me on numerous systems since win7's release years ago.

Like CraigB, I've used it for years and have never had a prolbem restoring an image it's created. :)
