v9 web browser hijack
« on: June 20, 2014, 01:54:34 AM »
Hi there sorry if this is posted in the wrong area or is irrelevant to these forums if so please feel free to delete.

A friend on mine recently downloaded what seems to be a v9 browser hijack. Unfortunately Avast and Malwarebytes between them are seemingly unable to fully remove this (potentially as it is not, by definition, a virus).  In trying to find a way to remove traces of this from their computer I have come across several references to a couple of pieces of software that seem to be successful, the two programs are called AdwCleaner and HitmanPro. Since I have never used either of these pieces of software myself and I am aware that, at least, AdwCleaner alters the registry, I just wanted to know if anyone has experience with or would recommend either of these as legitimate pieces of software or could recommend an alternative method of removal.

Thank You
Mattwillb

We use AdwCleaner a lot here....safe program for removing browser crap

If you need help, follow instructions and attach Malwarebytes and OTL logs    https://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=53253.0
