can not start firewall

I had a terrible time with avast today and finally after running the start up scan, it came back on, but will not start up firewall. What to do. If I do a clean start up will I loose my paid internet security that I have in addition to the free avast?

Repair avast!:
1. Control Panel -> Add/Remove programs -> avast!
2. Click on 'Repair'.
3. Follow instructions.
4. Reboot.

Do as Asyn said first.
If that doesn't solve it, we take it from there.

Don't worry.
Even if a clean install of avast is needed, you will not loose your license.
It will stay valid.
