Avast Free big issue on windows 7 x64
« on: December 13, 2014, 10:56:56 PM »
Hi,
The last version of Avast Free I have is 8.0.1506. This is the last working version I can use.
Since that, all the updates freeze my computer after about 15-20mins !! I didn't find any similar problem anywhere.
Does anybody can help me ? Except staying with this old version or switching to another AV, I'm lost :(
Thanks,

Why are you using an old version of Avast? Latest version is 2015.

Follow these steps:

1) Download this tool Avast Uninstall utility via here https://www.avast.com/uninstall-utility and Avast Cleanup Tool via here http://rejzor.wordpress.com/avast-cleanup-tool/

2) Disconnect your computer from the internet. Uninstall Avast 8 via add/remove. Follow the instructions.

3) Run the Avast Uninstall Utility in normal mode. The tool will then ask you if you want this tool to run your computer in safe mode automatically. Click yes and follow the instructions it will ask you to restart after this tool has done it's job. After that manual run your computer in safe mode (F8) and click on "safe mode with networking" and after run the Avast Cleanup Tool.

4) Reconnect your computer to the internet. Download and install Avast 2015 (choose custom install). After the installation it will do a quick start up scan and  wait for the scan to finish. After that manual restart your computer and register your copy of avast.

I forgot to mention this in my first post. What previous antivirus did you use prior to using Avast? Did you check for malware infections?

Hi,

It is working now fine ... I had forgotten to remove McAfee which were originally installed  .. Thanks guys !

- First uninstall Avast via add/remove.
- Download and run Avast Uninstall Utility in normal mode and it will ask you if you want this tool to run windows in safe mode automatically. Click yes and this tool will run your computer automatically in safe mode.
- Uninstall Mcafee via add/remove and follow instruction. Download the McAfee removal tool via here http://mcafee-removal-tool.com/ and run your computer manually in safe mode and run that tool.
- Download and install a fresh new copy of Avast (make sure you un-check any optional software that is being offered i.e. google chrome, google drive, and etc) and click on custom install so you can choose which feature you want to have and don't want to have. After it has been installed it will do a quick start up scan. Once that is finished restart your computer manually again and register your copy of Avast Free.
