autorun? do i delete avast to rid myself of this problem?
« on: March 07, 2015, 02:24:07 AM »
since i have had AVAST on my laptop i have had one major issue,  :o whenever i put in an SD card, or a USB stick i get the same message about a virus being found and dealt with, from that moment on my SD card, or stick becomes, 'empty', when i say empty it ISN'T actually empty, it just says empty when i click on the SD card or USB stick so i have NO WAY of accessing the contents, however when i click on properties it tells me there is a lot of stuff on there, 10 gig in the case of the stick, 5 gig in the case of the SD! AVAST in it's infinite wisdom has attacked and removed the autorun file rendering (now) around eight SD cards, and three USB sticks totally useless though filled with IMPORTANT stuff i can no longer access. is there ANY way to restore the autorun on the cards and sticks, and is there a way i can stop AVAST attacking all my portable devices in this way? I have searched online for answers to no avail, i have also fruitlessly searched the AVAST on my laptop to see if i can get it to ask me first before it acts, or to stop it removing all the autorun programmes from everything i insert rendering my laptop useless for everything except surfing? if i am not able to sort this i will have no option but to completey get rid of AVAST from my laptop, though just how i would restore the autorun is currenlty something i have no idea of!
 thanks in advance. ;D

If you are using the usb/ssd for data storage there should not be a autorun.inf on them.
There really seem to be a infection.
Follow the instructions and let us see:

WOW!!! there are a lot of instructions, that looks like a huge task to undertake for a complete novice like me,? I don't know if it'd just be easier to just get rid of avast? the USB sticks contained music and video clips (also of music) and the SD cards were straight out of my camera, something i have been doing on the laptop without any issue until i updated my avast? as i said the cards and the sticks are now useless on this laptop, yet work fine on a laptop that's 18 years old so not powerful enough to handle the stuff, though it at least will show that it's there! one of the SD cards was brand new, i unwrapped it, put it in the camera, took pic's, then tried to put them on the laptop, so no way a virus could have been present!

OK lets run this first

Uninstalling Avast will not cure the problem, just hide it

Download MCShield to your desktop and install
It will initially run a scan and show the result as a toaster by the system clock
Then in the control centre select scanner and tick unhide items on flash drives

Plug in the drive and McShield will start a scan

Then get the log which will be located under the logs tab on the main page

And post that
