Betas through Software Updater = Accident waiting to happen
« on: April 25, 2015, 06:46:06 AM »
I noticed the same issue today still in 2015.  (see also @demonix00 's  2014 post Why is the software updater asking me to update to a beta version of a program.

7-Zip is weird with their versioning because either you install something that is by definition unstable (beta, alpha) or very outdated (4+ years). It looks as though there is no stable and recent release available.

The point is that I would like to rely on a Software Updater that doesn't auto install beta software. This could be solved by adding an option to the Software Updater customization settings: "Include beta versions", and it should be disabled by default. (Feature request)

It is an ill-advised design decision to slip-stream potentially unstable (beta) software onto user's computers. It is going to backfire on users, well on us, unless it gets defused in time.
