Outlook 2003 SP2 Abending
« on: December 24, 2005, 02:20:12 PM »
Hi ya'll

right lets start with (Avast Home Edition)

Clean Rebuild.. i.e.

New Windows SP2 install
do WindowsWebUpdate
install MS AntiSpyware - do Update

New Office 2003 install - install Office SP2 update
do OfficeWeb Update

Install AVAST 4.6 Home edition
do AVAST Update - Program and AV files

Set up accounts X, Y and Z

rebooting as necessary along the way...

Bang when ever I Send/Receive I get a Outlook 2003 SP2 abended - shall I restart - this happens about 4 / 5 times and then settles down ... to fail again

OK that was the start so I tried again as follows:

Clean Rebuild.. i.e.

New Windows SP2 install
do WindowsWebUpdate
install MS AntiSpyware - do Update

New Office 2003 install - install Office SP2 update
do OfficeWeb Update

NO AV installed

Set up accounts X, Y and Z

rebooting as necessary along the way...

and everything works OK - no problems all messages download successfully etc...I have set messages to stay on server until deleted from deleted items folder so am using exactly the same messages.

Install AVAST 4.6 Home edition
do AVAST Update - Program and AV files

reboot and try to Send/Recieve Bang same problems with Outlook 2003 SP2 abending again...

Anyone seen anything like this? I can't say it is not Office or AVast, but everything works fine when using Office 2003 SP2 without AVast installed but as soon as I install AVast I get these errors...

Oh yes - I tried to disable the running agent for Office 2003 SP3 but it still kept abending.

So it must be AVast that is doing it...tried this on the same machine with the same source installation disks...same licence codes etc.  Only difference is installed and Not installed AVast

Before jumping onto the forum I took two days testing the above with all the same results...

Therefore anyone can help?
regards
Sean

Make sure the avast plugin is not disabled into MS Outlook:
Outlook 2003 > Help > About > Disabled items
and the message "The provider is waiting on the subsystem to start" is shown into avast providers even with MS Outlook open.

The plugin should be enabled automatically after you start MS Outlook.

Sean, I have XP Pro SP2 + avast + Office 2003 SP2, no troubles...  :-[

First of all Merry xmas to everyone, ;ets hope it is a prosperous one next year.

Thanks Tech for the advise above but it did not work...the plug-ins are enabled.  So far today I have simply restarted the computer started outlook and it has abended immediately in synchronisation after loading the plug in...

Any help would be grategully received,
regards
Sean

1. What do you mean by "abendened", exactly? Crash?

2. I know you didn't mention it, but let me ask anyway -- don't you have the "MSN Search Toolbar" installed?

Thanks

Hiya,

1. Abended = Abnormal end (sorry IBM Systems Programmer speak) = crashed - shall outlook tell mircosoft that you had the crash and shall I restart outlook dialog box...

2. Yes I do, that shouldn't matter, should it?

2. Yes, it does matter, in fact, it IS the cause of the problem. The current version of the desktop search has a bug that is causing this. If you drop me an email, I can send you a pre-release version of MSN Desktop Search that has the problem fixed (I got it right from the MS engineers that were solving the issue with us).

Thanks
