Brought and downloaded avast, windows 10 is now unresponsive and won't boot up

Brought and downloaded avast for my windows 10 laptop, it installed and then windows went unresponsive, now I cannot even get past the login screen when trying to boot up. Help

Did you remove any (previous) installed av completely before installing avast ?

Was able to access the control panel after countless login attempts and constant freezing and uninstall my previous anti-virus and now everything seems to be working fine. Thanks for the help!
