Avast not scanning since last update.
« on: June 12, 2016, 05:08:44 AM »
I updated avast a short while ago, now it won't do a scheduled scan.

I had it set to scan every day at 23:00, then shut off. It hasn't been shutting off. I checked the settings, and the scan was no longer scheduled. So I reset it. It still wouldn't scan. Checked again, the scan was no longer scheduled. It would remain scheduled right after I set it. Today, I set it again, and was actually using my comp when it was scheduled to scan. Right at 23:00, I got a pop-up asking me to shut my computer down because it finished its scan. Well, obviously it didn't do a scan. Looked at the settings again, and yet again it wasn't scheduled.

This has been happening since I updated it.

Repair Avast:
1. Control Panel -> Add/Remove programs -> Avast
2. Click on 'Repair'.
3. Follow instructions.
4. Reboot.

I did that, and it scanned on time. Didn't even know it had a repair option. Don't know if it'll shut off my system yet though, the thing takes over 12 hours to do a scan of my comp (seriously), so I have to pause it while I'm using it before I let it continue.

A scan does not takes over 12 hours unless you have many terrabytes to scan or if the cpu is busy with things that shouldn't run during the scan.

I have it scan over night, when I'm not even using the machine. And I only have a maximum of 465 gb of memory I can use, and of course I'm not using all of it. I do however have it scan my external harddrive too.

Have you changed default scan settings?

All antivirus programs have real time monitoring, meaning evrything that goes on in your computer is monitored (scanned) in realtime so all this frequent scanning is not needed

It doesn't matter if you are using the system or not, there still can be things running in the background or foreground.

465Gb memory ?
I don't think so.
Normal systems nowadays come with 2-8Gb memory.
I believe you mean the storage room (harddisk, ssd)

It does its scan again. However, it fails to shut down when it finishes. This is getting annoying since it means my comp often ends up remaining on for days on end because of this.
