Administrator privileges during install... again
« on: February 13, 2006, 03:03:12 AM »
Hi, folks!

Just trying to install my recently bought Avast 4.0 Pro but I am having some trouble... the most basic one: I can't install it on my machine.

I keep getting this message:

AFAIK, I've read all the posts here about the Administrator account issues, tried the suggested workarounds and nothing (running winXP Pro SP2, brazilian Portuguese) worked, like:

1. logging as "Administrador" (the default Administrator account in Portuguese), through two Ctrl-Alt-Del

2. Logging in as "Administrador" in safe-mode

3. Tried changing my XXX account (with administration privileges) to a limited one: XP says I can't do it because there should be at least one account with adminstrator privileges (but there IS one, the default Adminstrator acount, duh!)

To add to my dismay, Avast installs fine in my another machine right by my side (same account config; one user with administrator status, running the same winXP Pro SP2.

Worse, my machine dual boots to another XP Install and it also runs fine there: no complaints about privileges.

I am in the middle of a huge project here and cannot just reinstall everything: is there anyone around to help this poor soul?  :'(

Best regards

Did you change any access rights to registry?
Do you use any (security) programs that may cause such restrictions?

Not that I know of, no...

Do you use any (security) programs that may cause such restrictions?

Same as above: use to have Spybot, Ad-aware and CA EZ anti-virus installed (uninstalled yesterday to try again but the situation didn't change).

I am still stuck.

Thanks for the reply!

What if you try to create the mentioned key (HKLM\Software\ALWIL Software\TestSetup) manually (i.e. using regedit) - is it possible?
