ashbase.dll !
« on: April 05, 2017, 04:14:49 AM »
I installed Avast antivirus on this computer which has the operating system Windows 7 professional 64 bit. I ran a scan with Avast and the computer crashed. When I restarted it, I got a message that ashbase.dll is not found. I tried to re-install. I uninstalled Avast (at least it does not appear in the list of programs in Window's programs and features window). When I try to re-install Avast I get this message: "The program can't start because ashBase.dll is missing from your computer. Try re-installing the program to fix this problem." Well of course that's crazy since I was in the act of re-installing it. I made several attempts to re-install it anyway and I got the same message. I ran sfc to see if windows would replace this dll. The scan said there was nothing wrong with my installation of Windows. I can see there are a lot of Avast files and a lot of registry entries but Avast doesn't show up as installed in Windows' programs and features window so I don't see how to uninstall it. I wish I could at least get rid of the changes it has made to this computer. People have asked about this problem about ashbase before but there is no solution in these posts. Anybody know how I can uninstall Avast? And/or how can I re-install Avast? Is there a way to simply download this file ashbase.dll and put it on the computer?

Hi hamnose,

Welcome to the forums.  You'll need to get this file (aswclear.exe) avast clear.exe and move it from your Downloads folder and place it on your desktop:  https://www.avast.com/uninstall-utility

You'll need to follow instructions exactly and point this cleaner at avast only.  If in doubt, leave the default locations alone.

bob3160 has a video worksheet you'll need for a clean install:  https://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=195339.msg1383460#msg1383460  Watch the video to understand what needs to be done.

Old left over files from prior antivirus?  https://www.avast.com/faq.php?article=AVKB11#artTitle

[EDIT:]  Corrected errors.
