Cannot Update
« on: June 22, 2017, 02:28:28 AM »
I haven't been able to update my avast for a while.  I finally updated the program using a full download, but it still won't update the virus definitions.

If I try it says "downloading servers.def.vpx" and then alternates to "unknown error".

After a while it changes to "Last encountered error:  Unknown Error"
"Server: Download w6607332 Avast9 Server"

Not sure if that should work or not but if I type that web address into chrome I get a 404 not found.

Any suggestions?

Change your DNS to the one from Google and try to update.

OK, so that was not the issue, but you pointed me to the actual issue.

I have OpenDNS's free DNS filtering running on my router.  Turning that off and everything worked... The issue now is deciding which safety measure I want in place as they appear to be incompatible.

If I am not mistaken, you can change your system dns settings to OpenDNS and leave the router settings to default.  You do that by entering your network adapter settings for both IPv4 and IPv6 settings.
Windows 10 Home 64-bit 22H2 Microsoft Windows Defender - Windows 11 Home 23H2 - Windows 11 Pro 23H2 Avast Premier Security version 24.4.6112 (build 24.4.9067.762) UI version 1.0.803

Correct, but if it is set at the router level it filters every device on my network with no additional configuration needed.  And that wouldn't solve the issue at hand as it is openDNS servers that are blocking the updates, not how it is configured.
