Automatic install and import of data from Chrome!
« on: October 27, 2020, 11:12:04 AM »
Avast installed Avast "Secure" Browser after a computer restart / crash.
This is without my knowledge, consent, or permission, and it imported all my bookmarks, and set itself  to be the default browser and to start automatically every time the system started.

This is not an acceptable behavior. Please assist on how to delete all imported data from the Browser. It's no where to be found!

Moreover this is not a new behavior. Refer https://www.reddit.com/r/avast/comments/8jhca0/who_told_you_that_you_could_install_a_new_browser/

You can simply remove any avast extensions from going to the Google Chrome extension settings. See this: https://imgur.com/BEMj030

For your Chomr profile issue, we suggest you to remove your google account completely from Chrome. You can simply delete your Google Chrome profile to detach your Google Chrome account. Follow this: https://www.techsupportall.com/remove-google-account-from-chrome/

Afterwards, add the account again using the fresh one settings. This should work for you.

Hi mbhkoay,

We are sorry for your bad user experience. While we understand this may feel frustrating, we would like to inform you that we never install software without your consent. What probably happened, there had been a small check box ticked by default, opting you in for the browser installation, that did not get noticed during a program update of Avast AV.

Of course there can be a flaw in the process but we are currently not aware of any. We can try to analyze log files if you are willing to provide them to see what exactly happened.

You can also uninstall the browser any time via Control Panel or Start menu.

Have a good day.

Pavel @ Avast
