Problems starting the windows
« on: October 15, 2006, 08:36:46 PM »
Hello,

I installed the avast in my pc and i run the program. It said to me to run the boot scan, so that was what i did. After it made the boot scan (and it put a lot of files into quarentine) i reboot the pc and now i turn on the pc and i just can see the backgroun image. What can i do to start the windows correctly. WindowsXP

Can you boot in SafeMode (repeatedly press F8 while booting)?
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;315222

If so, better will be trying to start avast Chest again and post the name and file of the infected files.
If you do not succeed on booting, well, post again and will try plan B.

Have (or did) you have another AV installed in this system, if so what and how did you get rid of it ?
This could have this type of conflict on boot after the scan.
Windows 10 Home 64bit/ Acer Aspire F15/ Intel Core i5 7200U 2.5GHz, 8GB DDR4 memory, 256GB SSD, 1TB HDD/ avast! free 24.6.6121 (build 24.6.9241.848) UI 1.0.809/ Firefox, uBlock Origin, uMatrix/ MailWasher Pro/ Avast! Mobile Security

Crtl + Alt + Delete then go to File > New Process and type "explorer.exe". I had this problem too.
