on-access starts up deactivated at first
« on: October 19, 2006, 01:45:40 AM »
I don't know if this is normal or not. Maybe this is contingent on system start up.

When my system starts up, on access will show up in my system tray, with a little "no-smoking" type sign, indicating it is deactivated, but then after a few seconds, it will start running normally. Also, it will only start out at 5 providers running (omitting internet mail and web. I only have 7 total because outlook express is not installed on my machine.) But then after a few seconds it will go up to the normal 7.

Is this normal? Does it occaisionally do this? This situation has been intermittent. Sometimes, it starts up with no deactivated symbol, sometimes it does.

No, it's not normal to have the on-access protection disabled at startup.
But, if you're just saying it's shown for a while, some seconds, and then the 'a' ball is rotating again, then should be no problem as the drivers and the residents are being loaded at that time. Be sure that you're protected even with the icon showing that red sign (if it disappeards after that and the ball rotates).

You can check avast logs to see if there is any error or problem listed there.

Yes, it starts back up normally after a few seconds. I noticed something that might be related. I believe that both of these instances happened after I disabled restore on my drives. (I normally keep them disabled, but had to start them up for some reason I can't remember.) I'm pretty certain that when I started up my computer again after I disabled restore, that's when the avast disable sign came up. Since then, however, it has worked fine.

Curious, which avast log should I read?

Thanks! That's a handy dandy little utility!

No warnings or errors, thank god. So I think it's all good.
