Program not working anymore

Ok, I have no idea what happened here..

Yesterday Avast was running fine & dandy.. When I started up my computer just about 30 minutes ago, Avast isn't running it's On Access Scanner. I tried to just manually start it, got an error message..

I checked the Avast log viewer, and there are two errors there.

One being a system error "AAVM - initialization error: aavm start: avworkInitialize failed, 0000A438"

The other being a user error "aswSplash - Program error description: 42040 = VPS file was destroyed"

There are also application numbers in a different column. I'm not sure if those would help or not.. But, I do have them here just in case.

Now, I don't know much about this program other than keeping out viruses! But, I do know that last night it was working, and now for some reason it isn't.

I hope the info was detailed enough. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Try a repair of avast. Add Remove programs, select 'avast! Anti-Virus,' click the Change/Remove button and scroll down to Repair, click next and follow. You need to be on-line to do this.

If that doesn't work try, uninstall, reboot, install, reboot.

It would probably be best to download the latest version of avast and save it to your HDD, somewhere you can find it again. Use that when you reinstall.

Ok, I tried the repair, that didn't work.. But, I did uninstall and re-install it, and now it is working again.

Do you mean you have the same problem and this has solved it ?

Is it exactly the same, then have you tried what has been suggested ?
If it is not exactly the same error, then we need the same information, error messages
