Avast errors in event viewer
« on: April 23, 2007, 07:57:20 AM »
Running latest Avast on Vista HP.

I'm finding error messages in event viewer under the Antivirus tab, The errors state:

- <Event xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/win/2004/08/events/event">
- <System>
  <Provider Name="avast!" />
  <EventID Qualifiers="16896">90</EventID>
  <Level>2</Level>
  <Task>4</Task>
  <Keywords>0x80000000000000</Keywords>
  <TimeCreated SystemTime="2007-04-20T05:18:29.000Z" />
  <EventRecordID>138</EventRecordID>
  <Channel>Antivirus</Channel>
  <Computer>Paviliona1520n</Computer>
  <Security />
  </System>
- <EventData>
  <Data>AAVM - scanning error: DriverScanListenThread: FilterReplyMessage, FAILED, 80070006.</Data>
  </EventData>
  </Event>

I'm seeing 2-3 of these errors a day, Is this a problem? Everything seems to be working OK.

Thanks in advance.

I did a google search on the error 80070006 and there are lots of hits, unfortunately there are many different uses/occurrences of this error number to make it hard to pin down.

Are there any avast error pop-ups at the time or do these just appear in the event viewer ?
If there is no avast pop-up I wouldn't be too concerned, especially as you say things appear to be working OK. I rarely check the windows event viewer now a days, don't want to frighten the horses.

I have just checked mine and I have 5 Red errors in the last 4 months, none of which concerns me

This is one:
Quote
aswChestInterface - Program error description: CChestListView::OnFileEmailToAlwilSoftware() basNetAlert() failed: 42011.

Mine all relate to issues in the chest as I have been extracting, testing at virustotal and emailing samples.

Perhaps you can recall what you were doing at the time of creation 3 days ago (probably not).

Hey David,     No popups have come up, The only other problems I've had were two older programs that wouldn't open until I figured out that they were having problems with hardware DEP. It may have been that Avast was trying to scan these while DEP was shutting them down. I'll monitor things and see if it keeps happening.

Thanks for the reply.

Your welcome.

There used to be something about 16 bit programs (I assume that is what these older programs were) in the forums I can't recall what it was though.

You could try running these old programs to force the error (if it was the cause) and check the logs rather than wait. If it does cause the error then it may be worth trying a forum search for cant run 16 programs.
