Spy ware???
« on: May 31, 2007, 05:17:32 PM »
I have 3 files that norton does not consider a threat but I cannot delete them. They are in C/Documents and Settings/User/Local Settings/ Temp/Temporary Internet Files/Content.IE5/G54XYV4X.... The name of the files are too long but one starts with click,... another starts with activity,... and a third starts with betr=mvfne.... I tried to delete them in Safe Mode but could not. I am pretty sure these are spyware but are they anything more than annoying? Can I get rid of them? Should I get rid of them?

I have zero experience of Norton, since this is the avast anti-virus support forum, we won't be able to help with Norton specific problems.

If you haven't already got this software (freeware), download, install, update and run it, preferably in safe mode.
1. AVG anti-spyware (formerly Ewido) If using winXP. or a-Squared free if using win98/ME. Or SUPERantispyware Or Spyware Terminator
2. Ad-Aware SE Personal Edition
3. Spybot Search and Destroy

- MoveOnBoot http://www.snapfiles.com/get/moveonboot.html
- Unlocker http://ccollomb.free.fr/unlocker/ is also good as it also has a few additional features to not only delete the files but stop any process that is stopping you from deleting a file.

AVG anti-spyware (formerly Ewido) If using winXP.

"This setup contains the free as well as the paid version of AVG Anti-Spyware. After the installation, a free 30-day trial version containing all the extensions of the full version will be activated. At the end of the trial, these extensions will be deactivated and the program will turn into a feature-limited freeware version. The purchased license code can be entered at any time."

I think its only good for one month.

At the end of the month it reverts to the free version, no resident scanner and no auto update.

So it is good for beyond a month, that is what I have been using for a long time. I do a weekly on-demand scan and before the scan I do a manual signature update. So it works fine as an on-demand anti-spyware.

hi gostdawg3

go to www.virustotal.com and upload the files and check if they are really spy-ware... and if u want to delete them .. u can add them to avast virus chest...go to virus chest click on the user files ickon and add the files thru ADD FILES option..u can leave it there or delete them from there..
IF u still are having a problem deleting them try to use a seperate tool and delete it
MOVEONBOOT
this small <500Kb file is quite good[4.5/5]
http://www.snapfiles.com/download/dlmoveonboot.html
it is useful in deleting corrupted/cant read from disc/file does not exists cases...its a freeware.and by its name i am guessing that it deletes the files at boot-time..

Something else you missed, it wasn't GhostDog3 that had this problem but the original poster, dgroup and he wasn't using avast but Norton ;D ;D
