Antiexe virus has been detected in system memory
« on: February 26, 2004, 04:45:40 AM »
Hello all,

Avast home edition detected this virus in the memory of my cpu.  avast tells me to create a rescue disk and reboot using this disk.  How do I make a rescue disk?  Plus my cdrom drive does not show up on my computer.

I know this is an old virus and is transferred by infected floppy disk, and it (AntiEXE) overwrites the Master Boot Record of my hard drive.  How do I remove it?

You didn't mention what windows version you have or I would have explained in detail how to create a bootdisk and how to use it. You can obtain a bootdisk for almost every os from here http://www.drd.dyndns.org/fr_index.html?/disks.html

Create the bootfloppy and boot from it. If the system won't boot from floppy. Check the boot sequence (order) in the bios and make sure it is set to boot from floppy 1st. To restore the mbr >

Windows 95/98/me: boot from the floppy and at the prompt type: fdisk/mbr

Windows XP: boot from the xp cd, enter the recovery console (F2) and type: fixmbr

About the problem with your cdrom, it would really be helpfull if you tell us more, like:
1) What windows version
2) Did it work before
3) Does the bios still recognizes the cdrom
4) Is there an error in device manager
5) what did you do just before it disapeared
6) are the cable still attached properly
7) do you experience any other problems
etc etc.

Thanks for the info.

I have Windows ME on my cpu.
I created a boot disk but my system tells me that it is a none system disk and press any key once I have replaced it.

How do I check the boot squence (order) in the bios?

About the cdrom:
1)I have windows me
2)my cdrom worked before, i think the virus is causing     the problem with it.
3)I will check the bios infomation as soon as i find out how to. :-\
4)No error in the device manager
5)I ran a anti virus scan on my system and the cdrom disapeared
6)yes the cables are cattached properly
7)no other problems that i know of.

Okay,

I created a starup disk from my system.

at the prompt I typed
fdisk/mbr

after that i rebooted and did not receive the message stating (Avast home edition detected this virus in the memory of my cpu.)  Then I reinstalled my cdrom and it is working fine.

Thanks for the help!  I am goig to run another scan of Avast jsut to be on the safe side.
