ransomware shield and windows search
« on: March 31, 2022, 08:35:44 AM »
Hi,
in this forum, there was recently thread about possible hacking, lost data and extortion. This made me consider improving security of my data. Avast contains really nice tool for data protection - Ransomware shield, which should make unauthorized access by hackers to private data quite a bit harder.

I've looked at description of ransomware shield on Avast web site, but there is still one detail, that's not clear to me. What happens, when Windows Indexing service tries to scan data protected by ransomware shield? Am I going to get notification about possible unauthorized data access? Or is ransomware shield allowing access to private data by system services, that are digitally signed by Microsoft, therefore trusted?

Hi,

Ransomware Shield is triggered if files are modified, deleted, or encrypted by ransomware attacks.

Thanks for answer. That means, that Ransomware shield is not very useful as data protection tool, because it allows anyone to read my private files, even hackers. I'll keep using my current data protection system using VeraCrypt.
