Avast One VPN no longer working
« on: April 06, 2024, 12:27:24 AM »
I've been using the Avast One free VPN for the better part of a year without a problem, but starting today it no longer works.  When I activate the VPN, I get a confirmation popup from Avast One stating my VPN is on, but when I use my browser I get an error message stating "no internet" and the code DNS_PROBE_FINISHED_NO_INTERNET.  When I turn off the VPN, connectivity is restored.

This issue just started today.  I uninstalled and reinstalled Avast Secure Browser and rebooted my system to no avail.

Has anyone else experienced this?  Any suggestions for troubleshooting?  Thanks.

same issue here. VPN works fine if I logout and use the free edition. There's another thread with people having the same issue. Went through uninstall and reinstalling with support, they collected logs. I would think with multiple users having this issue they would be quicker trying to fix it.

I don't use Avast One, but the free version of it has a restricted data throughput 5GB I think.

If you are a heavy user I don't know if that could be an issue.

Your correct with free the limit is 5gb. I have a silver subscription which is unlimited. What i was saying is if I log out in avast and switch back to the free edition the vpn works, if I login to my subscription it doesnt.

Since you have a Paid version of Avast VPN - I had a quick look in the Avast SecureLine VPN for Windows sub forum https://forum.avast.com/index.php?board=53.0
Unfortunately in my quick look I didn't see anything directly related there.

My reasoning for this is that the Avast One Free VPN is working. But the paid product isn't, I don't know how they would integrate.  It may have been better to post in the main  Avast SecureLine VPN for Windows sub forum - FAQs https://support.avast.com/en-gb/article/secureline-vpn-faq/#pc

In the meantime I will try and draw some attention to your topic

I appreciate the feedback.

A little more information:

- In my case, it is the free VPN which stopped working.

- According to the GUI, I have about 4 GB remaining, so I'm not hitting a limit.

I'm just wondering if it isn't some sort of conflict were both are trying to connect.

However, I would have though it correct that the Paid Version of the VPN that would have priority as it is unlimited. Essentially the free VPN in Avast One could conflict when trying to run two VPNs simultaneously.

Hopefully my attempt to draw attention to your topic will draw an Avast response.

Question is, why run a free version and paid version?

Even if you don't run the paid version at the time, there will be processes for it running in the background.  Windows never likes to have two of the same similar processes running at the same time.  That is by design.  Avast does protect their running process in the antivirus, and I would presume the same would be true for their VPN's.

Otherwise you will get an app crash, (which is what you are experiencing, caused by Windows or Avast) and one or neither apps will work.

Just to clarify I'm not using securline vpn. Just Avast one. So there's no separate program running for the fee and paid version. Its a matter of logging in inside the Avast one program so it recognizes my subscription  or not logging in and using the free version.

My lack of knowledge of the Avast One Program versions/levels.

I have tried further to bump this problems resolution.

Further information - this may need direct contact with Avast Support.

this particular situation, the customer needs to contact support directly to get help.

Another point raised, Avast are in the process of updating error screens to indicate conditions for certain paid products when contacting support.

In your case - If they're a paid VPN or Avast One user, they can select their product at https://support.avast.com/ and then use the "Contact us" option.
