Chrome Yahoo redirect malware
« on: August 24, 2024, 04:14:39 PM »
I seem to have infected my Chrome browser with a virus or malware. When I search within Google Chrome, I get redirected to the URL above when I search in the Navigation bar. Sometimes, it will redirect to a Yahoo search.

I did not have Avast Security. I ran a Full Scan, and you did not find the malware or virus. I can switch browsers for now, like Edge, which does not have this problem, but while it only affects my Chrome browser searches, I'm concerned that my data and accounts might be compromised.

Below is what is in the browser navigation bar.

Aren't these one software? I don't see two when I check their website.

Why should we have to go use ANOTHER type of service when we pay for Avast now?? Avast SHOULD be able to keep me protected and if they cannot then Ill go ask for a refund and use a different virus program that will. Do you have any idea the number of hours I have put in to try and get rid of this redirect? I also work for a VERY large corporation and very high up in the company too, so I do not need my browser redirecting me! I knew I was a bit skeptical going with Avast in the 1st place and this seems to be verifying my skepticism. Plus, if it, Avast, cannot handle a simple browser redirect what else is it missing?? I do not feel protected now and others shouldn’t either!

Clear your browser cache.
Check that no extensions are installed in your browser.
Thank you and good day!

You should also remove cookies, including 3rd party cookies and restart your browser.
If that resolves it you should be good to go.
If it doesn't try running your browser with add-ons disabled.

If that resolves it, have you added or updated any add-ons ?
If so try disabling that add-on - and restart and try again.

If still not resolved and you are using Chrome based browser - try this suggestion by Avast Team member 'lukor'
What about page notifications? Here: chrome://settings/content/notifications ? Do you have all cleared?
