Virus Scan Result Question
« on: January 28, 2008, 12:41:08 PM »
I recently ran a scan, and the following showed up.  I'm not really sure of what they are, and would appreciate any info of what exactly this stuff is.

Name of file:

C:\Documents and Settings\Dan\Local Settings\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\2b5261u8.default\Cache(3)\178A2522d01\178A2522d01

C:\Documents and Settings\Dan\Local Settings\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\2b5261u8.default\Cache(3)\57256802d01\57256802d01

C:\Documents and Settings\Dan\Local Settings\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\2b5261u8.default\Cache(3)\79E6DF2Bd01\79E6DF2Bd01

C:\Documents and Settings\Dan\Local Settings\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\2b5261u8.default\Cache(3)\7B0C9B4Ad01\7B0C9B4Ad01

C:\Documents and Settings\Dan\Local Settings\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\2b5261u8.default\Cache(3)\8A93072Dd01\8A93072Dd01

C:\Documents and Settings\Dan\Local Settings\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\2b5261u8.default\Cache(3)\D065286Dd01\D065286Dd01

C:\Documents and Settings\Dan\Local Settings\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\2b5261u8.default\Cache(3)\DAD6E20Fd01\DAD6E20Fd01

Result:

Infection: VBS:Malware-gen

Operation: File was successfully moved to chest

The odd thing is that nothing was detected by the On-Access scanner.  With that in mind, I'm guessing that the latest definitions are picking up this stuff, whereas the previous ones did not.  If that's the case, I'm not sure how long it's been on my system.

If anybody knows that this stuff is, it'd be greatly appreciated.  I'd like to know what I'm dealing with here.  Also, is there anything else that I should do and/or look for?  Or should it be fine, since the files were moved to the chest?

Thanks in advance!

Yeah, they were lots of changes regarding the detection of script viruses. Either you may clean the cache, or you may zip the files and send them to virus@avast.com for further analysis.

Thanks.

Since I already put the files in the chest, should I zip and e-mail what's in there, or should I restore the files and then zip and e-mail them in their original context?  Thanks!

Files can be sent from the chest without having to zip and password protect them (the process encrypts samples in the chest), but unfortunately you can't send multiple samples in one hit (I hope this will be improved in the future).
