alittle bit off topic
« on: March 07, 2008, 08:37:31 PM »
I am very much into windows customization as well as security but ive always had a underlining nagging question that no matter how far i search in Google or ask it just doesn't get a answer and that question is are transformation packs, shell packs whatever you want to call then (Alienware, vista transformation pack, vista inspirat) anything like that before i install any i always create a restore point but the question overall is are they safe to use?

it depends, usually they consume a lot of memory so if you have lots of RAM, it's worth the try, but I wouldn't experiment if you haven't more than 512 Mb

I've tested Vista Transformation Pack into a XP virtual installation (VMWare virtual application).
I had some troubles uninstalling it.
I'm not a fan of 'system files' transformations. It's a tentative to get the look of a new OS in an old one. Really, Vista look in a computer that does not support Aero (old computer) won't worth for sure. Keep your good and old XP or use Royale theme to get a 'new' look into your XP.

I use vista transformation pack and i didn't like it it used 100% cpu at idle so i uninstalled it a few weeks later complete system crash never found out what just lately ive used Vista Inspirat which was alot better but then my system wouldn't boot up which i later found out to be the work of a faulty internal internet card that had gone bad so im guessing that vista inspirat might be a bit safer?

Justin... you will have troubles, sooner or later, with transformations pack, windows updates, etc.
