I need an advice, what else can I do? about these Trojans
« on: July 12, 2008, 07:37:33 PM »
Hi,
I'm facing some problems with some bugs, I can't get them rid off. I'm a user of Avast Free Home Edition, a very satisfied and grateful, by the way.
The fact is that 3 days ago, I got some bugs, that I sent them to chest, the case is that from time to time I got some pop up windows alert, the path in most cases is the original one, so I wonder, why do I need to send them to chest over and over?
The bugs, I identified are three:
wmsetup.dll, a: Win32:Trojan-gen ;    C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32
zsdgff.dll, a: Win32:OnLine-Games DQP;   C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32
update(1).gif a: Win32:Agent-ZMM;     C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32

Initially, I created a folder in C:\WINDOWS\TEMP\SUSPECT\ and export the wmsetup.dll in order to exclude it from the resident shield and exclusion in settings, in a way to avoid the alarms, without any results, perhaps in that moment I reactivate some virus which were in the chest.
I run Avast antivirus, no matter how many time I run and send these bugs to the chest, I got a pop up windows alert in a short time.

I enclose a recently hijackthis logfile;
Waiting for your advice,
Thanks in advance,

Valerianjc ???

Against recurring infection, I suggest:

1. Disable System Restore and reenable it after step 3.
2. Clean your temporary files.
3. Schedule a boot time scanning with avast with archive scanning turned on. If avast does not detect it, you can try DrWeb CureIT! instead.
4. Use SUPERantispyware, MBAM or Spyware Terminator to scan for spywares and trojans. If any infection is detected, better and safer is send the file to Quarantine than to simple delete than.
5. Test your machine with anti-rootkit applications. I suggest avast! antirootkit or Trend Micro RootkitBuster.
6. Make a HijackThis log to post here or, better, submit the RunScanner log to to on-line analysis.
7. Immunize your system with SpywareBlaster or Windows Advanced Care.
8. Check if you have insecure applications with Secunia Software Inspector.
The best things in life are free.

You have to keep deleting the files because they keep being downloaded. You certainly don't want to exclude them!!

It looks like your Hosts file has a lot of malicious entries.

Find your hosts file and delete it- Windows will safely create a new one.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hosts_file#Location_and_default_content

Then do a few anti-spyware scans as Tech suggested.

EDIT: Typo
