AVAST THREAD
« on: August 20, 2008, 06:25:31 AM »
It's hard for a newbie and even an AVAST member as me. I find our threads to be too much digressive. Sometimes, you read the thread then you loose the substance. There could be valuable information lost there. Hey, don't misunderstand me, "I don't want to shut anybody's mouth", no. That's why it's may be better to start new thread specific subjects when we want to digress. I hate to say that but that's because I love best this forum for its freedom in writing and expressing a view,  notwithstanding the poster is being a geek or a bit naïve.  "Let it be". Respect for all. But Order too, as in every worthy forum. 8)

Very good post, gdiloren.

I fully agree with you even though I am also guilty.   ;)

Hi gdiloren and CharleyO,

Well I have to give you folks a pat on the back, because when a thread is interesting, you two guys always come up with a reaction, and a good discussion on real issues works, an' there are many instances avast profit from what the forum folks dig up. It works that way, not always but more often than not.
Still some times you have the feeling "that you can not lay your personal egg". If you look at my postings (and there are some) they are in the virus and worms (because I like the work of malware fighter and help victims to get rid of malware), this also helps my understanding of it and is helping towards my own security. Then I post a lot about the Firefox (Minefield) browser and Flock and in-browser security issues, because good in-browser-security can help against malware (NoScript, ABP, Firekeeper) and I am also propagating cleansing up after a computer session with ATF, ClearProg, IECacheExplorer.
So it would be helpful if the general forum had sub forums, like in my case Browser Security.
There could also be a subforum like new threats - malware all sorts.
We have a lot of expertise here, and certain people have built that up through becoming member of the avast webforum community. I learned a lot, it opened up my eyes to a lot of security issues, it made me a Minefield test pilot, it took me to post on MozillaZine, an become involved with bugzilla.
It created lasting friendships with good Malware Fighters like Essexboy, Oldman, etc. etc. They learned me to work hijackthis, comboscript and learned me to search for similar cleansing routines and the right info on processes and files (Freefixer, FileAlyzer etc. etc.). All noses one way folks, close the ranks against malware,

Cybersecurity is more of an attitude than anything else. Avast Evangelists.

Use NoScript, a limited user account and a virtual machine and be safe(r)!

I totally AGREE with you Polonus, why not do subforums. It would be easier to search and surf. The administrator should also have the right to move the posts were they belong, I guess. :)

I'd rather that, when I digress, someone, please and kindly, send me an IM ;)
I could digress very easily... I post too much ;D

I'll digress myself sometimes, but I try to keep it at least somewhat related to the original topic.  And I do warn that I'm possibly at least a little off-topic.

gdiloren ,

you have been here a very short time ... you can find similar posts from me preceeding yours ... you are p*ssing in the wind.

And ... in the end ... most of the posts do stay on thread. It is the contentious ones (and I will admit to being responsible too) that stray but they are the minority.

So - I have to suggest - this is a problem that really does not need solving ... which is, I think, the position that the moderators have (correctly) arrived at.
