I can't get it to work
« on: August 30, 2008, 02:12:17 PM »
I have tried to install Avast several times and each time it installs with a short-cut on the desktop that has no target i.e. the ashAvast.exe is missing. Any ideas what the problem is???
Thanks,
Chris

Hmmm... your installation is deeply corrupted.
Or your computer is already infected and the virus is preventing correct avast installation.
Or you could have another antivirus (or leftovers) in your computer.

Can you post more info? Other antivirus (in the past), firewall, operational system, if you're virus clean...

we haven't had any antivirus software for a while and no fire wall. We did nave Napersky or something like that but it is now uninstalled. Avast Cleaner finds no viruses :-[

I just tried using Spybot and the same thing happened. I guess I have got some pretty bad viruses - any idea what I can do to sort this out????

Please, run a full computer on-line scanning:
Kaspersky (very good detection rates)
ESET NOD32
Trendmicro housecall
F-Secure
BitDefender (free removal of the malware)
