After Service Pack 3 install Avast will not work
« on: October 22, 2008, 12:14:42 AM »
I run XP, did the service oack 3 update and now I have the redball line on the Avast icon. I have uninstalled, reinstalled, repaired, restored Windows, uninstalled the service pack and a host of other suggested things, still no Avast. Will have to get different antivirus if this continues. BTW I did the uninstall through safe mode with the Avast uninstall file I d/l. Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I suggest an installation from the scratch:

1. Uninstall avast from Control Panel first.
2. Boot.
3. Download the latest version of Avast Uninstall and use it for complete uninstallation.
4. Boot.
5. Install again the latest avast! version.
6. Boot.
7. Check and post the results.

Followed the instructions, same results, although the icon does not have a red ball on it anymore, but it also did not have one the last 3 times I uninstalled and reinstalled. It still gives the same message The AAVM subsystem detected a RPC error. I guess I just have to give up on this virus program and really hate that because up until this happened I had no issues whatsoever.

How long does it stay there is is it always over the avast icon ?

Try enabling the 'Delay loading of avast services after other system services' in the avast Program Settings, Troubleshooting section.
Windows 10 Home 64bit/ Acer Aspire F15/ Intel Core i5 7200U 2.5GHz, 8GB DDR4 memory, 256GB SSD, 1TB HDD/ avast! free 24.5.6116 (build 24.5.9153.762) UI 1.0.808/ Firefox, uBlock Origin, uMatrix/ MailWasher Pro/ Avast! Mobile Security

The redball is always there now, when I first reinstall it is not there, but after the second boot it reappears. Tried the delay loading and it did not have any affect on the problem. Still no Avast.

I d/l the pro version of Avast, thinking I would just buy it and maybe it would solve the problems. Nope same outcome. I have to do some research to find another program, can't get this one to work so it is to the trashcan with it.

  • If at first you don’t succeed; call it version 1.0

Follow Tarq57's suggestion.
Also, some infections could prevent the correct installation of the antivirus.
Try full computer on-line scanning:
Kaspersky (very good detection rates)
ESET NOD32
Trendmicro housecall
F-Secure
BitDefender (free removal of the malware)
