what are the security hazards of sharing a partition of the HD over a dsl network?

I'm not having any problems doing that.
MySharedFiles are housed on a 500 Gig external DSL drive.
The server has been up for quite a few years.
I use WWW Fileshare Pro and have never had any problems.
Prior to setting it up on it's own HD, it was on my main HD.
