Browsers blocked
« on: December 18, 2008, 01:26:27 PM »
I am new to avast and cannot connect to any website with firefox nor with IE unless I disable Web provider.
Is there any option inside the Web provider that I should unmark instead of disabling the whole Web provider?

Web shield won't block all of your connection.  Could you see if your firewall is blocking web shield?

Into the firewall settings, the following programs should be allowed to connect:

C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4\ashWebSv.exe (avast! Web Scanner)
C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4\ashMaiSv.exe (avast! e-Mail Scanner Service)
C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4\Setup\avast.setup (avast! Update executable). This is a temporary file that just appears when an update (check) is about to launch, and disappears again afterwards.
The best things in life are free.

What is your firewall ?
Does it allow ashWebSv.exe internet access ?
- If it does delete the entry for it and reconnect to the internet, this will force the firewall to ask permission again.

Thankyou very much for your answers.. I have now managed to get avast working!

It happens that I thought that I had Uninstalled Panda, but avast was stopping the uninstalling when found a virus in one of Panda's dll's.
I stopped avast and unistalled Panda again, this time without problems. After rebooting, avast and all providers are working fine, without blocking any browser. Many thanks again to all that answered my query..
