Scanning CD before openng
« on: December 24, 2008, 11:15:35 PM »
Recently my computer infected with new folder.exe.

But it resolved with Avast  8)

(I believe this new folder.exe problem came with inserting a CD in my CD-ROM drive.)

What I want to know is:
How to scan a CD with Avast before it actually opens up the files/run automatically?

avast will do it with any file opened/executed (with avast default settings).
You can use USB VirusScan
http://blog.didierstevens.com/programs/usbvirusscan/

For me:
"<path>\USBVirusScan.exe" -c -i "<path>\ashQuick.exe" j:
Where j: is the drive letter I receive when I insert the USB stick make it be scanned by avast.

Edited... sorry I've thought USB, not a CD  :-[
Anyway, for newfolder.exe http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=41036.msg344954#msg344954

I see from another post you have xp, download TweakUI,  and disable any drives you wish. You can then insert usb sticks,cd s etc,and any viruses will not auto run.You can then right click on the drive and scan with AV. To be 100% safe use Sandboxie. to run/play whatever is on cd,( right click on drive and choose run sandboxed )
