avast and vista
« on: February 01, 2009, 03:05:49 PM »
Dear sir or madam,
I bought a Vista-equiped laptop MSI.... last October, which broke down at Christmas. The MSR is out of order, and the salesman tells me it is because of Avast. He stated that this is the third computer with this problem, and that each time Avast deteriorated the hard drive.
Could you please let me know if there really is problem with Avast under certain configurations?
Thank you in advance for your reply.
Best regards.

I have been running Avast! for 2 years under Vista Ultimate and on another computer for a year under Vista Home Premium with no issues.  Haven't seen a report of this from anyone else either.

I have Avast and Vista home premium without any problems.I think the tech that told you Avast damages computers is not much of a tech.Get a second opinion. ;).

Do you mean this "MBR - Master Boot Record" and not MSR.

If you do, I haven't the slightest idea how the Tech (salesman) could say one way or other what damaged it ?

Most salesman haven't got the slightest idea about computers other than basics (unless they are themselves computer enthusiasts) other than selling them or posibly selling you a service to fix it.

I have had avast for almost 5 years and use it on two different systems and not a single hard disk problem. Added to that I have been frequenting these forums for almost 5 years and again no sign of this damaging of the HDD. So for a salesman to come across this 3 times and for him to draw the conclusion is is down to avast is pathetic, if it weren't so serious it would be laughable.
