As for finding out if it's a false positive or not, you might try uploading the file to http://www.virustotal.com and see what it says.

At least strange. Maybe sending a copy to virus (at) avast (dot) com
and add a link to the virustotal results.

That's ok.  They don't really respond to emails, they just quietly take submissions, and add to the definitions when necessary.  As you can imagine, they probably get plenty of submissions every day, and responding to each would be quite time consuming.
