 ???Somebody tell me how to turn it off can't play games with the damn thing on!

Why did you check it in the settings in the first place?

By default, this setting is not active.

So, check the settings you have changed and correct the change.

The best way would have not to enable them in the first place.

Open the Standard Shield provider - Left click on the avast 'a' icon, click the Details... >> button if shown, select the Standard Shield provider > Customize > Advanced - 'Show detailed info on performed actions' this option is off by default, so it would appear you have been tweaking avast without knowing the effect it will have. This function is also on the Web Shield and Internet Mail providers so you should also check those.
