Hi voorhees_scott,

This isn't necessarily bad, because avast doesn't have the password, it can't scan them.
There is a saying somewhere here on the forum that goes somthing along the lines of:

files that can't be scanned are just that, just because they cannot be scanned does not mean they are malicious

However, since they are all located in the system restore, they are fine to be deleted.
This can also be done by disabling system restore and then enabling it again.

Hope this helps,

-Scott-

  • If at first you don’t succeed; call it version 1.0

Did you reboot in between?
It doesn't matter when you scan.
Re the "unable to be scanned" files, it is quite possible that not all of them are restore points, we can't know because the screenshot doesn't cover the entire report.
Other security applications also protect certain of their files, too.
If nothing malicious has been found, I wouldn't even worry about a repeat scan.
Unless, of course, your system has "symptoms".

The box as you call it only appears if it has something to report. So in this case no news (box) is good news.

The report file option is different to the box that pops-up and I don't believe you need that option. It is handy at times if used for fault finding, etc. but I have 'never' enabled this in over 5 years of using avast.

You are able to 'Modify' your posts, by clicking the Modify button on all your posts, you won't see that on the posts of others (obviously).
