I have a virus Avast hasn't found....
« on: December 21, 2009, 05:22:31 AM »
I am a teacher in China, and students are always giving me ubs's that often contain viruses.
I always scan them, and clean them, but I have a new virus that avast didn't find.

It often makes the following website pop up

hxxp://www.aiqianming.cn/index.jsp?webownerId=12330&childid=10000

normally using IE although my default browser is chrome

is there a manual fix anyone can recommend? Or a way to get it fixed in the next update??

Thanks!

Dave

Hello david__thompson

you can send the password protected zip file to virus@avast.com with the subject "malware undetected by 4.8.1368" and the password, link to this topic.

or you can add the file to avast! chest and you can select email to avast option, do a manual update so that file is uploaded to avast! servers.

thanks

Thanks for the advice, I have no idea which file or where is causing the issue, any tips on how to track this down?

Hello david,

if the file which was not detected by avast!, was in a pen drive, then you probably cannot access the file unless you have the pen drive still with you.

Can you do a computer scan ? :

get malwarebytes antimalware (mbam) from here : http://www.filehippo.com/download_malwarebytes_anti_malware/download/9106b8191068ab9b490c5684ca9462cf/

install, update and run a quick scan(disconnect from internet when you are scanning). fix all found items, reboot if required.

come back post the log. let me see the log..

thanks

@ the OP: not sure you got a virus at all there. Sounds like adware stuff and pop up triggered by cookies etc...no big deal. Clean your browser cache cookies and temp files, and you should be good.
