TROJANS
« on: December 22, 2009, 07:14:04 PM »
I have been trying to help a friend remove numerous viruses and trojans from his computer but we cant get them all. We have ran Avast, Malwarebytes and Spybot. System is XP Home with Srv pack 2. Can not update get the following errors when try to update 0x8024d007 then follow the Microsoft fix and try update again and get error 0x800a138f. Then cannot start the Background Intelligent Transfer Service. Computer is running extremely slow. Also, My Docs and Dell folder starts at reboot. Im sure the reg keys are messed up now as well. Considering using the Computer Cleaner (ccleaner.com) states that will clean and reset registry. What is the best way to get rid of all the trojans, malware, viruses etc and reset the registry? Your advise greatly appreciated. ???

Hi Bigwill,

As usual please download and scan with :

1. MalwareBytes and please do up to date first

2. Super AntiSpyware and please do up to date first

3. Adware Lavasoft and please do up to date first (not recommended to run with avast, because the service will crash with avast)

4. You also could use GMER Anti Rootkit : http://www.antirootkit.com/software/index.htm

Hopefully could support you with these informations

Thanks Yanto,
I will disable Avast this evening and try your recommendations and revert with findings. Also, the webpage always sets to http://go.microsoft/fwlink/?linkid=69157 before it goes to the MSN homepage. I am researching today for a solution to this also.

Thanks,
BigWill

 :)  Hi BigWill :

Lavasoft's "Ad-Aware" has NOT been a top antimalware program for several
years . Based on what you shared, I recommend you seek the help of an
experienced, possibly "CERTIFIED", Volunteer "Malware Removal Specialist"
found on Advanced malware removal forums . The only persons like that on
this forum would be "essexboy" or "oldman" and unless either of them show up
here, I recommend you seek help at www.geekstogo.com/forum/forums.html .

I was able to run Malwarebytes again and found 2 more hijackers. Avast didnt locate anything. Spybot will start to load but continues to hang so can not run the program. Now internet explorer will start to load but hangs. Time to buy a new computer?
PLEASE HELP.

Thanks,
BigWill

The log produced by MBAM might give some clues on other actions depending on what it found.
