Security Utilities?
« on: March 30, 2010, 12:32:02 PM »
Hi Yokenny & all those who use them,

Could you care to shed some light on the practical pros & cons of  Finjan Vital, MVPS Host File, hp Hosts, Open DNS etc as seen in your sig….don’t they bloat IE, slow down browsing or get connectivity problems…..are they like a CC for FF, since you seem to be an authority on them?

Are they really needed......how are they helpful....or just a peace of mind?

Hoping to hear you’re tried tested experiences!

Regards!

My computer geek patient's reply to these questions:

"depends on how paranoid you are and what you're doing online. OpenDNS's DNS service is pretty good, but I use Google's DNS now. Their web filtering is about the same as the others"

HostMan can manage hosts lists automatically (like MVPS and hp).
Finjan, well, it was good in old times... not sure it does not slow down browsing too much.

I do not use Firefox so I can on comment on CC for FF.

Finjan doesn't slow down my browsing but somtimes its slow providing an indicator in Google searches.

I use HostsServer that is included with HostsMan as a browser speedup proxy that also logs the effectivenes of the HOSTS file if Enable log and Log referrer are selected in Preferences.

Ok, this is what I've tried to say.
