Low Hanging Fruit and vulnerability assessment

Do anti virus and anti spyware programs assist in protecting the user from attacks by concentrating on common, “well-known” vulnerabilities in websites?  Like XSS disclosures and attacks. Is there a program specifically designed to help web designers?
