AVAST Verses Norton
« on: August 15, 2004, 02:49:16 AM »
I recently bought a new computer that came with Norton.  The subscription has ran out and its time to renew if I want to keep it.  My question is should I renew or use Avast or AVG ?  I have used AVG on a previous computer and recently downloaded and installed Avast.  Avast and AVG both seem to do a decent job I think.   If I stay with Avast or AVG do I need to uninstall Norton ?
Thanks in advance for all your help

I'm no guru about anti-virus (but welcome to these forums) I think you'll find that having 2 anti-virus programmes running together will cause more problems than it solves.

A search here about norton will show you how to completely un-install it.

I have used AVG in the past, and avast is (imho) much much better.  Not only the programme itself but also the support you'll get here.

Of course you have to uninstall Norton. Never ever keep two or more anti-virus tools running on the same system. You'll probably have more problems than you can imagine trying to uninstall Norton. Norton is resouce hog and it doesn't deserve to run on anyone's system. Biggest problem is 'cause it's not so easy to uninstall it. You think everything is clean, but it's not... there will be tens of Norton registry keys left even after complete uninstall. Search the web for Norton uninstall tool or even better, search these forums for my friend RejZor's application. It has Norotn uninstallation tool integrated, so it will be less of a hassle to uninstall that monster.
Avast! is great, avast! is best. You'll see that after few weeks using it. Avast! Home Edition is free and best of all, you have free technical support at any time in these forums...

Welcome and stick aroud !

Hey Radarpy,

It's radicalb21. First let me say welcome to the forum. To answer your question. I personally choose AVAST as my antivirus software beacause of there excellent support and support within the forum. If you stck around you will see what I'm talking about. I have tested numerous antiviruses over the years and avast is the best at what they do in my opinion. Secondly you should never have two antiviruses running on the same computer. Avast has many numerous features. You should uninstall Norton. There are two versions of avast HOME EDITION & PROFESSIONAL EDITION. If you have any questions or would like to purchase avast please visit my website. The url is www.v1ru5help.org you are also invitied to join my forum if you would like.  Also checkout this like for a comparsion between the two editions:

You know, I used to be guy who swithed anti-virus-software for about every 2 months,....but since november 2003 I am using Avast and I still use it,....maily because it has a very very very and i repeat once more VERY good support,...

welcome to the forums :)

oh and btw,...norton is way to much overrated,...it uses to many resources and is not that effective the Internet wants you to believe,... :)
