Avast 6.0.1289 Update Preventing WIN 7 NCSI from Connecting
« on: September 10, 2011, 01:04:31 AM »
On WIN 7, the OS dials-out at boot time to Network Connectivity Status Indicator web site using a domain name of www.msftncsi.com. It does this to ensure that Internet connectivity exists. If it fails to connect, your TCP/IP initialization will be slowe and MS will be continuously trying to connect.

Appears the outbound web shield might be the culprit?

Don't know why this update broke this connection but it should be fixed.

Other than this issue, everything working great with update.

All my realtime shields were mysteriously turned off in my most recent boot however. I manually set them on. I will keep an eye on this.

This is not exactly a "solution", but a possible workaround.

Avast main GUI -> real time shields -> Web Shield -> expert settings -> "Scan traffic from well known browser processes only".

Then save, reboot and test.
