Please help
« on: January 30, 2012, 12:47:18 PM »
Hi all,

I do hope you are all well, I am hoping you may be able to shed some light on a small problem I have with Avast!.

The problem I am having is that when I download and install programs, Avast will let me download the programs but not install them.
I have to disable Avast for 10 mins before I can install and use the program, once the program is installed everything is fine..
I have never had this problem before it has only started a few months ago.
Why will Avast allow me to download programs but not install them without disabling Avast first??
The programs I download and install new updates to are:

1. CCleaner
2. Malwarebytes antimalware
3. Defraggler

Please could someone give me some advice on why this would happen.
I use Avast FREE Antivirus 6.0.1367

Thanking you in advance

happy avast user :) :)

what's the error message you get when you can't install an app (and Avast is active)?

Hi Logos,

I don't get an error message, my computer just freezes and I have to hold on/off button down till it switches off :( :( then I have to switch it back on and disable Avast and once I've done that I can install programs no problem..

Hi,

ok so there can be something wrong in the way Avast drivers deal with your system. I suggest a complete uninstall (not a repair) of Avast, a reboot, and a new install. Well that's what I would do.

edit: but the issue is weird, Avast doesn't include any HIPS. May be as a first step try to deactivate the behavior shield. And if that's not enough, remove it - the component -  and reboot. See then what gives.

just as a reminder: the Avast uninstall utility does not uninstall as well as the "normal" uninstaller does,it leaves more stuff on the hard disk, it's just meant to be used when uninstalling normally doesn't work, whatever the reason is.

The uninstall utility is meant to be used after you have removed the program through the add/remove function. Removal of avast! is a 2 step process as are removal of all other AV programs.

Bob it might be meant to do so but that's not what I observed each time I tried it, at all.
