download on the same file: 1Ko/s with the shield and 110Ko/s without....

Bonjour Lemurien

Bienvenue sur le forum avast...

No, it's not normal to stop the standard shield to browse the net

What is your system spec (OS, CPU, etc) ?

Are you sure it's the standard shield that you stop or the network shield ?

Personally I use :

Anti-virus
- avast as main av-scanner
- escan as backup scanner (it uses Kaspersky engine) :
- online scanner for suspect files : http://virusscan.jotti.dhs.org/

Anti-trojan
- ewido (only as backup scanner)
- a2 (or a square) (only as backup scanner)

Anti-spyware
- spybot S&D
- spywareblaster
- ad-aware SE (free edition)

Firewall :
windows XP SP2 - behind my ADSL router firewall (US Robotic USR8054)
I may replace SP2 fw with kerio free edition or outpost (shareware)

And last but not least :
- firefox instead of Internet explorer
- thunderbird instead of Outlook Express

At the moment I'm also giving a try at prevx.

The only programs that stay all the time in RAM are :
avast
prevx (under test)

I can also recommend you this french site where you can find many useful informations about computer security :
http://perso.wanadoo.fr/websecurite/

I also recommend you to see the signature of our 'avast evangelists' (Technical, Eddy, sorry for those I not mention). You will find links to nice tools and advices.

And...keep reading/posting in avast forum.. You are at the right place  ;)
