Avast 7 ignoring update settings

We are on dialup in Thailand with only limited web access. Because of that, I have configured the program to check for updates every 1440 mins (24 hrs) instead of the default 240 mins. But Avast is ignoring the setting and attempts to update every few mins as can be seen in the screenshots. (The arrow points to an update attempt 38 mins ago) How can I prevent this?

The update check certainly happens when the computer is started (no matter how often you start it). Isn't it the case here?

I've just checked again and it would appear that what you say is correct. I restarted again mid-afternoon today and an update was attempted at 15:25. But no more attempts have been made since then. I will just have to make sure I don't insert the aircard for about 10 mins after starting the notebook next time.
