Avast took my daughter's homework off of her thumb drive
« on: April 20, 2012, 05:04:32 AM »
My daughter was trying to open a school assignment from her thumb drive and when she clicked the report that she had almost finished at school, Avast free said it was infected and removed it from the drive.  Is there anyway to get it back?????  She worked hard on this, and is really upset.  I can't find it anywhere on the thumb drive or on the computer.  Does anyone have any advice???????

The exact message is:

MALWARE BLOCKED

avast! File System Shield has blocked a threat.
No further action is required.

Object:  E:\Freshman Semester 2 Humanities II\Harry Potter 7 Essay.doc
Infection:  MW97:Claud-A
Action:  Moved to chest
Process: C:\Windows\Explorer.EXE

The Threat was detected and blocked just before the file was opened.

What is the "Chest" and what can we do?  Sorry if dumb question, first time user.

If she was working on this using a school computer, it is evident that the school computer is infected and you should notify the school officials.

Maybe the following will answer your question as to why the homework was put into the virus chest:

Hi bob3160,

Just a remark, bob3160....some of these school officials had better visit your avast security seminar whenever you are in the vicinity, some software needs essential updates and patches there.  ;D
Not good to put your students at risk through exploitable vulnerabilities,  :-[
