Avast processes still running when disabled
« on: July 23, 2012, 11:39:21 PM »
I'm tyring to work thru a couple of issues and need to run Combofix per the directions of a technician.  Evidently the Avast software interferes with an accurate process and needs to be turned off.  I have gone to the icon and disabled everything but task manager still shows two processes still running.

AvastUI.exe and AvastSvc.exe

When I try to terminate it says Accesss Denied.  How do I disable the program completely so as not to interfere witht teh normal operation of Combofix?

PLEASE!  No sarcasm from the Uber-idiots.  I want a straight answer from a technical person or staff only.

The shields are disabled but the underlying processes are there for when they are restarted normally as in the case of a pause/stop restart of the shields, they need the processes to restart, this avoids having to reboot (so the instance of running a malware cleaning tool isn't a normal situation).

However, there is no problem in running combofix in this condition as can be seen in the cleaning routines in the viruses and worms forum. That said combofix is a tool that should only be run under guidance of a malware removal specialist.

So if you want qualified help - Go to this topic http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=53253.0 for information on Logs to assist in cleaning malware. Use the information about getting and using the tools and attach the logs here, not in the LOGS topic.

Ill add that if you really must kill these processes you much first disable the Avast Self-Defense protection. This is under the troubleshooting section in the program settings. However, As David said, it is not necessary to kill these in order to run ComboFix
