Securely WIPE non-phone tablet prior to return or sale?

A bought a better android 4.0 tablet to replace similar which I now wish to return. Factory reset doesn't securely wipe data from an android device..data can easily be recovered: http://www.gottabemobile.com/2012/02/27/security-guru-dont-sell-your-android-phone-until-turning-it-into-swiss-cheese/
There are apps that claim to wipe data securely but they get very mixed reviews. Avast mobile security, which I immediately installed on both tablets, offers a wipe function as part of anti-theft. Is there a way to do this without texting to the device...do it directly?
Avast Mobile should consider offering a "wipe data securely" app.

Well, mobile security has antitheft and there is such a choice - go to antitheft, advances settings, lock text, GPS, wipe and choose thorough wipe. The wipe will take a little longer, but nobody can be able to recovery the data back.
