Last encountered error: the package is broken
« on: January 20, 2013, 10:33:38 PM »
My Avast will not update. This is the error message I get. Anything I can do to fix this? or wait for the package to be replaced?

apparently they fixed their package...lol. Had to go out and when I got back, the computer said that Avast had just updated. Just so used to everything being so automatic...lol

I've had the same "package is broken" error several times in the past.

This week, I got that error, and after restarting computer, still got it for a full day.

I could not repair the Avast installation.

The solution for me was to uninstall Avast free and re-download and re-install it.

I've had to do this before, but not every time I got the "package is broken" error...so it's worth waiting a day, restarting, or repairing before reinstalling.

Another option is (after the Repair if it didn't work and before a reinstall):
- avast! Virus Definitions Update - Manual Download VPS Update (virus definitions, vpsupd.exe, approx 78.1 MB). - Save the file to your hard disk, locate where you saved it and double click it and that should carry out the virus definitions update.
Windows 10 Home 64bit/ Acer Aspire F15/ Intel Core i5 7200U 2.5GHz, 8GB DDR4 memory, 256GB SSD, 1TB HDD/ avast! free 24.6.6121 (build 24.6.9241.848) UI 1.0.809/ Firefox, uBlock Origin, uMatrix/ MailWasher Pro/ Avast! Mobile Security
