avast keeps showing red Malicious URL Blocked message - Pls help
« on: February 27, 2013, 09:31:25 PM »
I keep getting this red popup window that says 'Malicious URL Blocked' every few seconds and will not go away.

I ran AdwCleaner, MBAM, OTL & have attached the logs here. When I tried aswMBR, it said 'not a valid win32 application', so could not run.

Can someone please help? Thanks.

Could you post a screenshot of the alert as it does contain more information

Download the latest version of TDSSKiller from here and save it to your Desktop.

  • Doubleclick on TDSSKiller.exe to run the application

  • Then click on Change parameters.

  • Check the boxes beside Verify Driver Digital Signature and Detect TDLFS file system, then click OK.

  • Click the Start Scan button.

  • If a suspicious object is detected, the default action will be Skip, click on Continue.

  • If malicious objects are found, they will show in the Scan results and offer three (3) options.
  • Ensure Cure is selected, then click Continue => Reboot now to finish the cleaning process.

  • Get the report by selecting Reports

  • Note: If Cure is not available, please choose Skip instead, do not choose Delete unless instructed.
Please copy and paste its contents on your next reply.

The report from TDSSKiller is given below. Popups seem to have stopped. I have not seen any for the past 15 minutes. They used to come every other minute.

I had saved the screenshots earlier in a word file but it is not letting me attach it here. Do you still need it? If so, I can try to save them as jpg. Let me know.

Should I do something more? Can I uninstall the tools now?

Thanks a lot for your help.

Re-run TDSSKiller with the same parameters as initially
When this element appears select delete :

\Device\Harddisk0\DR0 ( TDSS File System )

Then once you are happy I will cleanly remove my tools  ;D

@ jomztaruc  I will look next

Subject to no further problems   :)

I will remove my tools now and give some recommendations, but, I would like you to run for 24 hours or so and come back if you have any problems

Now the best part of the day ----- Your log now appears clean

A good workman always cleans up after himself so..The following will implement some cleanup procedures as well as reset  System Restore points:

Run OTL and hit the cleanup button.  It will remove all the programmes we have used plus itself.

We will now confirm that your hidden files are set to that, as some of the tools I use will change that
  • Click Start.
  • Open My Computer.
  • Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
  • Select the View Tab.
  • Under the Hidden files and folders heading select Do not show hidden files and folders.
  • Click Yes to confirm.
  • Click OK.
Clear Restore Points

Go Start > All Programmes > Accessories > System tools
Right click Disc Cleanup and select run as administrator
Select More Options tab
Press Sytem Restore and Shadow Copies Cleanup button
